The organiser of an equestrian event which remembers a young man who took his own life has been overwhelmed by the support from businesses and the wider community.

All 33 classes in the grand charity horse show being staged at Humberstone Farm on Mill Road, Cobholm, already have sponsors and raffle prizes have been flooding in.

Trystan Potter, 26, from Belton, took his own life almost three years ago.

Although he had a loving family, a good job, and lots of friends he was suffering from general anxiety disorder, a condition that affects lots of young people.

Joanne Carlton, who is best friends with Trystan's mum, Dawn, said, mental health was a big issue in the borough and one that had been brought into sharp focus by missing Sophie Smith from Gorleston.

She said a previous event had raised money for Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, mostly a male charity, but because of Sophie it was decided to support Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind.

'It is a big thing in the town at the moment, it is at the forefront of everyone's mind.

'Hosting the event gives Dawn something to concentrate on and helps her to do something to help someone else.

'I'm sure most of you at one time or another have been touched by this dreadful illness but with so little help available it falls to charities such as this to help where they can.'

She said Trystan's parents Dawn and Brian had been helped by mental health charity Mind in the wake of their son's death.

The event on February 25 runs from 8.30am to 5pm, with fun classes for children, one dog class, and more serious classes where the supreme champion rosette will be hotly contested.

It will be held indoors and Mrs Carlton, from Runham, hopes to attract as many entrants in all classes as possible as well as an enthusiastic crowd of spectators casting an eye over their favourites.

Last time in 2016 £1,800 was raised, a sum that looked set to be eclipsed with so much support already being shown.
