Apprentices are ready to open a 1950s-themed pop-up reminiscence room complete with film posters and retro-furniture for patients with dementia.

The room at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn is being created for a national challenge scheme to find the best apprentice team.

The room will be ready on Friday and Sarah Reed, mental health liaison nurse, said more memorabilia would be added in the future.

“Hopefully this will help patients open up about their previous lives. If you know that a person was a nightwatchman, it might be the reason why they are up all night.”

After a call was made last month for people to turn out their lofts for any pre-1960s items, a lot of memorabilia has been donated, but items such as dinner plates, curtains, and wallpaper are still needed.
