Environmental health teams are visiting factories in Norwich and Great Yarmouth after a number of coronavirus cases were confirmed.
Norfolk County Council has said it is “managing situations” at two sites run by the Pasta Foods business group - the Pasta Foods factory on Forest Way in Costessey and Snack Creations Ltd on Pasteur Road in Great Yarmouth.
The county’s director of public health, Dr Louise Smith, said on Thursday (October 29): “A number of those positive results were notified to us yesterday evening (October 28).”
She added that their environmental health team are visiting.
Pasta Foods have been contacted for comment.
The company, founded in 1956, makes pasta both in Yarmouth where it runs a factory – and the UK’s only dedicated semolina mill – and for the past four years in premises near the Norfolk showground, just outside Norwich.
A spokesperson for Pasta Foods said: “Pasta Foods and Snack Creations LTD have been working alongside Public Health England and Norfolk County Council following a small number of employees who were tested positive for Covid-19 and did not come in to work.
“The first case was three weeks ago at our Norwich Facility and those employees who tested positive are fit and well and are now back at work having followed the UK government isolation procedures and guidelines.
“We have a small number of employees at our Great Yarmouth Facility who are currently isolating following positive testing.
“Norfolk County Council have been very supportive and commended us on our swift actions and responses, and all of the measures that have been instigated to protect our workforce since the pandemic began.’’
