The future of caring for the elderly and vulnerable was discussed at a British Red Cross event in Norwich last night, with North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb among those who delivered a speech.

The event, held at the Forum, was focused on 'empowering independent living in East Anglia' and saw several passionate speeches from people involved in the care profession.

Mr Lamb, the coalition government's minister of state for care and support, praised the work of the British Red Cross in battling social isolation and loneliness as information about the charity's Older People Outreach Service was highlighted.

He said: 'We should celebrate age and everything it potentially offers us and realise that if we unleash this force of community, we can make a real difference to people's lives.'
