Helping to promote the benefits of group singing, the Waveney Warblers is a “singing for well-being” choir based at the North Lowestoft United Reformed Church.

Launched in November, it meets every other Monday and has more than a dozen members who enjoy singing show tunes, carols and pop songs. The choir is a collaboration between Voice Cloud Projects – a local arts and well-being organisation – the Bridge View Drop-in Centre in Lowestoft and North Lowestoft United Reformed Church.

The Rev Nathan Eddy, minister at the church in London Road North, said the choir was going well so far and its members were clearly enjoying themselves and growing more confident with every session.

He said: “It is really coming along. We have got about 16 or 17 people who come along from all sorts of backgrounds – from Bridge View, homeless and vulnerable people, people from local churches and people who used to sing and have gone a bit rusty but wish to rediscover their vocal abilities. We have a real good time and the choir sings show tunes, carols and pop songs.”

Mr Eddy said that although it was still in its early stages, the well-being choir was clearly benefiting people and that everyone who had come along to a session had decided to continue attending. Singing together builds community and it’s great fun,” he said.

With the choir open for everyone, and no previous singing experience necessary, Bridge View manager Stuart Jennings said the emphasis was on enjoyment. He added: “We hope people from across the social spectrum will come together to sing in this choir, for the good of the whole community.”

The Waveney Warblers meet at the North Lowestoft United Reformed Church – at the top of London Road North – every other Monday between 5.15pm and 6pm. Its next sessions are on January 7 and 21. Anyone interested in joining can simply turn up at one of the sessions.
