Child health check service to end at Thorpe St Andrew clinic

Parents living in Thorpe St Andrew will have to travel further to get a health check for their children as a result of changes by a community NHS trust.
Dussindale Community Centre had been used as a location by Norfolk Community Health and Care (NCH&C) to carry out health visiting sessions. However, from June 2 the service will no longer be offered at the centre in Pound Lane and parents will be offered alternative sessions in Heartsease or Thorpe Hamlet.
Officials from the health trust said the changes had been made to relocate the service to a children’s centre and nearby outreach centre to provide more information and support to families. They added that around ten parents access the health visiting sessions at the Dussindale clinic and the new locations were around five minutes drive from the current site.
Wendy Simpson, NCH&C’s community children’s services team leader, said: “This integrated approach will mean parents can continue to access our health visiting service, while making it easier for them to find out about our other services and those offered by the children’s centre. Parents will also be able to pick up information about the wider support in place, including help with returning to work, finding childcare, early years settings, family support, family health, managing debt, and the library service.
“Our improvement plans will also see changes in the way our sessions are delivered, so we can tailor our approach to parents’ particular needs. We will focus on the key issues which parents face at different ages and stages of their child’s development.”
The new sessions will be provided from June 2 at Woodside Centre, Witard Road, Heartsease on Tuesdays and Thorpe Hamlet Children’s Centre, in Wolfe Road on Wednesdays between 10am and 11am for babies under six months old and between 11am and 11.30am for children up to five-years-old.
