Staff at a Norfolk care home have welcomed an overall good Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection rating.

Its report said people were valued and respected as individuals and were happy and content at Downham Grange care home in Downham Market.

Peter Barlow, manager of the home, said: 'As a team, we share a passion for good care and I am delighted that has been recognised by the inspector in his report.'

Feedback from one relative, shared in the report, was that 'all the carers are so caring and can't do enough for people'.

The report adds staff respected and maintained people's privacy and residents did not have to wait for long periods before having their care needs met.

'This meant that people's dignity was respected and that their care needs were delivered in a timely manner,' it says.

The inspector observed people enjoyed a varied menu and had a range of meals and healthy options to choose from.

He noted entertainers visited the home and that residents had been on recent trips to the seaside and a local pub.

'During this inspection people said they felt safe and that staff treated them well,' he said.

'Policies were in place to guide staff with the safe ordering, administration, storage and disposal of medicines.'

The report praises the leadership of the home and the open culture in it.

'Staff told us they were able to speak with the registered manager, their deputy or registered nurses about any concerns they may have and felt these would be addressed promptly and effectively,' said the inspector.
