Swaffham’s Escape community allotment project will hold an open afternoon at the Tumbler Hill allotments tomorrow afternoon.
The scheme, which aims to promote mental and physical wellbeing through gardening and outdoor activity, last month received a £10,000 grant from mental health charity Mind on behalf of the Big Lottery Fund to help make its work sustainable.
The open afternoon, which will allow some of the 100 people who have benefited from the project over the past year to share their achievements with local people and organisations, will run from 3pm to 5.30pm on Wednesday June 13 and include a barbecue.
Plans for this year include developing the sensory garden using a donation from Waitrose and planting up a creative bed, which will be used for pressed and dried flowers to make items to raise funds for the project.
Escape will also continue cooking sessions using produce from the allotment in seasonal recipes, and hosting monthly food-growing workshops for Flagship Housing tenants funded by the Flagship Community Initiative Fund.
If you would like to come to the open day, find out more about the project or attend Flagship food-growing workshops, call Katy Fullilove on 01760 720302.
