An 89-year-old grandfather rode on an exercise bike at his place of worship as part of the annual Norfolk Churches’ Trust sponsored bike and walk.

Bill Hone was reluctant to give up the annual ride, in which people fundraise by visiting as many Norfolk churches as they can, despite his age, and took his exercise bike to Pott Row Methodist Church, near King’s Lynn.

He travelled the same distance on the exercise bike that he would have done on the county’s roads.

His wife Shirley said today: “It went fine, and we’re really pleased. We won’t know how much we raised until later in the week.”

Mr Hone, who lives in Lynn Road, Grimston, has been taking part in the event for about 20 years.

Hundreds of people took part in the annual fundraiser, which is now in its 32nd year, yesterday.
