Great Yarmouth High Steward Michael Falcon dies

The High Steward of Great Yarmouth Michael Falcon CBE has died aged 85.

Mr Falcon, who held the title of High Steward for nearly 30 years, passed away on Monday evening at his home in Keswick, near Norwich.

Flags at Yarmouth town hall and at Caister Lifeboat station - a service which he was a staunch supporter of - have been flying at half mast since news of his death emerged and will continue to do so until the day of his funeral.

Mr Falcon was the director of the former Lacons Brewery and was heavily involved with St Nicholas’ Church Preservation Trust since it was established in 1996, and went on to become the group’s president. In October 2009 he received honorary Freedom of the Borough.

Richard Packham, managing director of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: “The borough of Great Yarmouth has lost one of its strongest champions and a very loyal friend.

“As High Steward and Freeman of Great Yarmouth he brought style and dignity to the many civic events that he attended and he was an untiring supporter of local organisations, particularly St Nicholas Minster and Caister Lifeboat.

“His contribution to the economic, social and civic life of the borough is simply without parallel and he will be strongly missed.”
