An iconic fish and chip shop chain have announced they will continue accepting old £1 coins after the official expiration date.
Harry Ramsden's, in Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, are allowing customers to use the old coins as a 'money saving device' from Monday, October 16.
Frank Romano, brand director for the fish and chip shop chain, said: 'Given there are so many of the old coins still around, this deadline has obviously caught many people off guard.
'As a family brand, we feel that it's only fair that we do our bit, especially with Christmas fast approaching – a time when every penny counts.'
He added: 'Within our popular Great Yarmouth restaurant, customers enjoying main courses from our menu will be able to give us as many as five old £1 coins, thereby saving up to £5 from their total bill.'
The restaurant will continue to accept old £1 coins until Tuesday, October 31.
