Lost souls have their own eerie theme park to play in at Great Yarmouth's Hippodrome Circus.

The spooky set - complete with haunted carousel and creepy coconut shy - is taking shape in the famous ring ahead of this year's Halloween Spooktacular which opens on Friday October 20.

Rehearsals for the new show are well underway, but even before a single audience member has passed through the doors TV crews have been given a sneak peek.

The new set which depicts a spooky fairground with a motorised Ferris wheel will be the backdrop for the attraction's latest appearance, due to be screened on Channel 4 later in the year.

Hippodrome owner Peter Jay said: 'We are thrilled to be featured on so many TV shows from Drew Pritchard's Salvage Hunters, BBC's Bargain Hunt and now a very exciting appearance on Channel 4 too, people from these companies are finally finding out about the magic of the Hippodrome.'

Meanwhile, the backstage lives of performers at Great Yarmouth's Hippodrome Circus are captured on camera, at an exhibition at Cromer's Red Lion Hotel featuring work by former Professional Photographer of the Year David Morris.

Acts including the Flamingos dance troupe, high wire performer Frankenstein, contortionist Melany and juggler and clown Tom Gaskin are pictured backstage as they prepare for their turn in the Big Top spotlight.

Mr Morris, who lives at Cromer and teaches creative advertising at colleges and universities all over Europe, said his shots were the result of overcoming challenging conditions which saw him battle 'bombardments of blistering light', followed by 'annihilating darkness.'

'All subtlety was lost,' he explained. 'The only thing to do was to rely on the speed of my camera's auto settings, but the The Hippodrome is laden with props, artwork and paraphernalia - it's a photographer's dream.'

The exhibition runs at the Red Lion, Cromer, until December.
