Now in it’s fourth year and televised by Sky Sports to an audience of millions, The Norfolk Polo Festival in July is arguably the jewel in the crown of East Anglian polo.
Brothers in arms set to shine at festival, Tom and Charlie Townsend, certainly epitimise Churchill’s quote: “A Polo handicap is your passport to the world”.
At just 15 and 13 years of age respectively, The Langley School Polo Academy students have won places on the HPA (The governing body of Polo) development programme that nurtures young talent and have represented England in their age groups, playing in the USA, South Africa, Argentina and Barbados.
Their achievements are testament to the hard work of the boys themselves, and also to ex Great Britain Captain Jason Dixon, Director of Langley School Polo Academy.
Miles Underwood has joined The Norfolk Polo club after a successful stint as polo manager at Ranksboro’ Polo Club, where under his guidance the membership more than doubled in just one season.
There will be plenty of local interest for spectators at the festival with Norfolk-based teams taking on some of the finest players from this country and abroad.
Graham Waring, of Warings Furniture, based at Larling, will be leading a team and said: “We have been training hard for the festival and are looking forward to representing the county.”
Another locally based team is led by Paul Bussey and represents the Wodehouse Stud and Equestrian Centre at Hethel.
“This is a festival we all look forward to and the thousands of spectators create a really special atmosphere.
“It is a genuine family event with people of all ages enjoying the weekend,” said Mr Bussey.
The EDP is a media partner of the festival.
