A charity golf competition raised more than £3,300 for Wells lifeboats – £600 more than the event raised last year.
More than 70 players took part in the competition, which was held at Weston Park Golf Club near Lenwade last Wednesday.
Eighteen teams of four competed for a crystal glass trophy, which was donated in 2005 by the late Lady Gwenneth Mackintosh, the President of the Norwich Ladies Lifeboat Guild.
The competition was started in 2003 by Sue Edwards at Costessey Park Golf Club, and has also previously been held at Bawburgh and Dunston Hall Golf Clubs.
Co-organiser John Mitchell, who is also Wells RNLI press officer and a Weston Park member, said more than £1,600 was raised from the charity auction, raffle and hole sponsorships with Barclays Bank offering to make up the raffle takings with an additional £750.
Mr Mitchell said he was overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response he got from businesses.
“It just shows how much people appreciate the work the lifeboat does and all that the volunteers do in saving lives at sea,” he said.
The winners were a team from Barclays, namely Tom Hall, Paul Knights, Gavin Ratcliffe and Ian Bowker who scored 98 Stableford points.
The team generously re-donated their prize – a round of golf at Sheringham Golf Club – which was auctioned and raised an additional £110.
Second place went to Mick Abbott, Weston Park captain Les Grayston, Maria Grayston and, Weston’s Ladies captain Sue Hutchings with 97 points.
Third was Gareth Stevens and Stuart Purling from Weston Park, with John Purling from Bungay Golf Club and Doug Ratcliffe from Bawburgh. They scored 94 points.
All the proceeds will go to Wells lifeboats.
