David Moore, from Taverham, was granted planning permission earlier in the year by South Norfolk Council to build Congo Rapids Adventure Golf alongside the Norwich Family Golf Centre, near the showground entrance at Easton. And he has said that work on the site should be completed within the next two weeks.

Mr Moore was so impressed with the quality of the courses while on a family holiday to Orlando in Florida that he decided to design a course of the same quality back home.

He has been working with a Swedish company responsible for the construction of more than 200 adventure golf courses throughout Europe in order to get the design just right.

He said: “The 18-hole course will feature a range of main features including a customised plane and jeep, self-propelled rafts to travel across water between holes, a smoking volcano, a cave with a cascading waterfall, lots of animals, and lots of water.

“It’s an eight-week build and we are about six weeks into it. We are looking to open the course ahead of the Christmas holidays.” He is confident there’s a market for adventure golf courses in the region.

He added: “For a city the size of Norwich there are not that many easily accessible, activities-based centres such as this.

“What is happening across the UK is that more adventure golf courses are coming to cities, rather than being mainly based on the coast. There will also be a shop at the site where you can pick up any last-minute Christmas shopping.”

Meanwhile, work started last month on a new crazy golf course at Eaton Park in Norwich, which should be up and running by Easter.

Permission for the 18-hole crazy golf course on the site of disused bowling greens, near the Colman Road entrance to Eaton Park, was granted earlier this year.
