A young girl has been rescued after sinking up to her waist in mud in a disused Suffolk quarry pit.
The girl, believed to be aged 12, slipped into the pit in Badwell Ash, between Diss and Bury St Edmunds, while playing with friends.
A volunteer doctor from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service charity was mobilised to the incident at around 7.45pm today.
Fire crews from Bury St Edmunds used specialist water rescue equipment to free the girl who was then assessed by the doctor and ambulance crew.
The girl suffered minor injuries and was able to return home without having to go to hospital.
