Customers hit out at the event on Mid Norfolk Railway over the weekend, taking to Facebook to claim they were disappointed with the experience, including a slow service and long waiting times on Friday.

One, 70-year-old retired caterer Chris Bone, claimed: 'The coach was absolutely boiling and we couldn't open the windows,' while HR consultant Deborah Amiss, 54, from Taverham, said: 'The measures of gin were laughable. We were very disappointed with the whole event.'

However Railroad Events, which organised the train between Dereham and Wymondham, said that despite some early teething problems the gin train has received five-star reviews.

A statement from the company said: 'Railroad Events received criticism for slow service and long waiting times on Friday.

'The company reacted by increasing staffing volumes and altering departure times.'

It also said hundreds of positive comments were left on the company's Facebook page, with many customers thanking the company for an enjoyable experience.

Penny Monument wrote on Facebook: 'Had a fabulous time on the gin train. Good selection gins provided on the journey, staff were excellent.' Charlotte Garner added: 'Greeted my kind friendly staff and were served some lovely gins. I don't know what all the complaints were about.'

A spokesman from the company said on Sunday: 'Our increased staffing levels for our onboard bar immediately ironed out the teething problems on our earlier services.

'We reacted to feedback immediately are pleased so many customers enjoyed yesterday's trains.'

In an earlier statement, Railroad Events said: 'There are many customers who had a fantastic day at The Gin Train Experience and there will be plenty more.

'Mid-Norfolk Railway who we've hired the railway from are a heritage railway charity and are aware of the feedback regarding their trains.

'As an extra we added a bar service. This was more popular than we had anticipated. For future Gin Trains we have added extra staff to keep up with additional demand.'

Railroad Events have two further services running today (Sunday, June 17) on the Mid-Norfolk Railway between Dereham and Wymondham.

There are also several Gin Trains running later in the year.
