A King’s Lynn teenager was today presented with a gift from the Queen to mark her academic achievements.

Hannah Crosby, who studied at Springwood High School, King’s Lynn, received a special prize after gaining top exam results last summer.

The teenager was joined at Sandringham by her dad Perry, mum Sarah and Springwood High School headteacher Andrew Johnson.

The 18-year-old, who is studying maths at Warwick University, said: “I didn’t really know what to expect when I got up this morning.

“I was a little bit nervous when we were driving up here but I was also very excited. Overall it’s been a surreal but nice day - it’s not something which is going to happen every day.”

The teenager, who gained four A* in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics at A level, was given a signed copy of the complete works of Shakespeare by the reigning monarch.

She continued: “When you go into the house it is slightly overwhelming. Especially when you walk through the house and there are her corgis laying on the floor.

“We spoke a bit about maths and then just general things that have been happening like the floods. “She then asked what I was doing now and whether we lived in King’s Lynn and how I was finding university. She is just a genuinely nice person.”

She added: “My uni mates are all really proud and very excited. I’m going back to uni now so they will no doubt have lots of questions.”

Her mum Sarah said: “It is just the most surreal experience. To walk through Sandringham House and then to be in a room with the most famous person in the country, if not the world, it’s bizarre.

“I thought it would be a lot more formal but it was very relaxed which was very nice. The Queen is very good at making you feel at ease.”

She added: “I’m so proud of Hannah. She has done incredibly well. She put in a lot of time and effort and deserves this.” Meanwhile Springwood High School headteacher Andrew Johnson said: “Hannah is our highest achieving student ever. She got four A*s at A level and in several exams she didn’t drop a mark.

“She is an exceptional individual and I’m very pleased for her. This is a very well deserved day for a very hard-working young lady.”
