An Olympic volunteer is in the running for the Christmas number one single with the Games Maker Choir after spotting an advert while on a tea break.
Anne Rason, 66, of Marston Road, Clayhall, first joined the all-volunteer troupe while working at the Olympic Park.
And after teaming up with singer Alistair Griffin, the group has released a charity record entitled I Wish For You The World.
She said: “I went along to the first meeting, expecting half a dozen people to be there, but it was more like 200, now there are double the amount. Everything has come together so quickly.
“The choir is marvellous and it is like being part of a big supportive family. It is a diverse group of people aged between 19-80, from all walks of life.”
The group, which recently signed to Decca have the backing of gold medal winning Olympians and Paralympians as well as London Mayor Boris Johnson.
The former law practice manager said: “I never in my wildest dreams thought we could get to number one, I’m still shell-shocked at the prospect.
“But our primary objective has always been to raise funds to help aspiring athletes.
“We are very lucky to have been able to continue the spirit of the Games and whenever we meet up there is an instant camaraderie.”
Alistair Griffin asked the choir to join him on the record after hearing the group perform in the Park.
The choir, which featured in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year’s coverage, has also won support from gold medal winning rower Katherine Grainger, who offered to do vocals on the track.
Ms Rason, who has sung semi-professionally, added: “Performing at the show on Sunday was amazing.
“We saw everyone from Bradley Wiggins to Seb Coe, and they agreed to hold up the choir’s sign.”
Proceeds from the single will be go to the British Olympic Foundation and British Paralympic Association.
William Hill puts the choir at 14/1 with X Factor’s James Arthur at 2/1. The result is on Sunday.
