The Highways Agency said overnight repair work will take place over three nights from Monday, March 3.

The road bridge shut on Tuesday and Wednesday overnight this week for “investigations to inform temporary repairs”.

In a warning to road users issued today, the agency said work starting Monday will take place between 8pm and 6am each day and is expected to be completed by 6am on March 6.

While work is carried out, the bridge will be closed in both directions and signed diversions will be in place.

Traffic wishing to travel southbound will be diverted via Acle New Road, Fullers Hill, Alexandra Road, Yarmouth Way, Hall Quay, Bridge Road and the A1243 Pasteur Road. Northbound traffic will be diverted via Pasteur Road, Bridge Road, North Quay and Acle New Road.

A further overnight closure will be needed during spring 2014 to repair the lifting mechanism permanently, although dates are yet to be announced.

  • Is this the same bridge that 'would need hardly any maintenance?' Sorry but the flyover would have cost us a lot less already.
