The EDP Future50 firm which uses a tele-sales team to seek out new customers for charities, started 18 months ago with just seven staff with Greenpeace signed up as one of its first clients in February last year.

The money pledged will support Greenpeace’s call for oil drilling and unsustainable fishing to be banned in Arctic waters, and for the pole and its surrounding region to become part of the “global commons” where no nations can claim territorial rights.

Jonathan Green, managing director of Thirtyone, said: “The Save the Arctic campaign is one of the biggest Greenpeace has ever undertaken.

“On behalf of our team members and thousands of supporters who have been a part of our fundraising this last year I am extremely proud to say that we have reached £1m – a phenomenal achievement.”

Debbie O’Dowd, head of supporter recruitment for Greenpeace, said: “This is a hugely ambitious campaign and we have been overwhelmed by the response from our supporters. We would like to thank
everyone at Thirtyone for their hard work.

This money will be put to good use, helping to raise global awareness about the dangers of Arctic oil drilling and have the Arctic declared a global sanctuary.”

  • Greenpeace is the most hypocritical charity going. Time for the charity commission to remove its charity status
