A variety of community projects in and around Thetford are set to benefit from an injection of funding from the Moving Thetford Forward board.

The Charles Burrell Museum, housed in the original Burrell’s paint shop on Minstergate, received £19,250 towards the refurbishment of its exterior, while the Dad’s Army Museum received £10,000 towards the cost of the original van driven by Lance Corporal Jack Jones in Dad’s Army.

Brettenham and Kilverstone Parish Council received £20,000 towards the cost of building a riverside path from Arlington Way to Nun’s Bridges, which is due to begin early next year, and the United Reformed Church on Earls Street received £7,500 for structural repairs.

Meanwhile, Thetford Park Run, which encourages people to run, jog or walk as part of a weekly 5k challenge, received £2,000 to kick start the project and a Keystone Development Trust project was given £4,914 to provide support and advice to communities when submitting grant applications.

The Thetford Players received £3,500 to buy costumes for its Thetford Historical Walk project which provides guided walks in Thetford and plans to take its historical characters to schools and provide museum re-enactments.

Chairman of MTF, William Nunn, said: “It’s great to see so many community projects being funded, big and small, this year and encourage people to think how the money could be spent on projects that will give a longer lasting legacy.

“There is a great deal of community work that goes on in local communities that often goes unnoticed. There are lots of small volunteer led projects that could do with support in providing the vital services they do in their area and MTF is happy to offer its support where it can.”
