Free activities, music and fun is promised as the Lowestoft Summer Festival returns.
The popular annual festival has begun, and despite a brief downpour of rain, hundreds of keen runners set off on the weekly 5km Parkrun, which started proceedings at 9am along the seafront this morning (Saturday).
There will be activities on the sands south of Claremont Pier, a food fair in Waterloo Road, Kirkley, an interactive science exhibition at St Mary's Primary School and entertainment on Royal Green.
With more than 30 stalls now set up on Royal Green, entertainment runs from 11am to 8pm today – with a children's funfair, performers on two stages, a pop-up cinema featuring old East Anglian archive film clips and a Puppet Theatre. And on the south beach at 6pm tonight, there will be a record-breaking attempt to beat the number of sandcastles built in an hour.
With fun for all the family guaranteed, Danny Steel, of Lowestoft Vision, said: 'The weather forecast is really good for this afternoon and everyone is ready with our own village created on Royal Green. There are more than 30 stalls featuring charities and local organisations and the entertainment today runs until 8pm.'
