Despite the murky weather this bank holiday Monday, it was sunny smiles all round at Eaton Park as the ground’s miniature railway went full steam ahead with its fundraising day.

The third event of its kind, the railway raised £670 for a new hospice at Framingham Earl, as part of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice’s Nook Appeal.

This is just one of the charity events which takes place at the railway each year, with other fixtures including a Children in Need fundraiser every September.

Two miniature trains operated throughout the day, totalling 650 journeys between 1pm and 5pm.

Barry Fane, Chairman of Norwich & District Society of Model Engineers who run the railway, said: “We are so pleased that the day was successful and that the weather held out. We have all had great fun running this day for EACH and I know park visitors enjoyed it too.”

Mike Fordham came up with the idea of the fundraising day, and said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be donating the sum of £670 to the EACH “Nook” Appeal. A big thank-you to everyone who came along for a ride today”.
Carol Plunkett, EACH Norfolk Fundraising Manager, said: “All the money raised from this event will go towards the Nook appeal, which is our campaign to raise £10 million to transform children’s palliative care across the county, including building a new hospice called The Nook at Framingham Earl, near Norwich.”

EACH also ran their own successful tombola at the event.

Ms Plunkett added: “In order to help make our vision of a new hospice for local life-threatened children, young people and their families a reality we need the support of all sectors of the Norfolk community. This includes individuals, schools, community groups and the business sector to help us achieve our fundraising target. The support today from Eaton Park Miniature Railway is fantastic and we very much look forward to their continuing support.”
