Chris Bell, a forecaster for UEA-based Weatherquest, captured on camera the gloomy start to the weekend with his early morning photo of “a decaying elevated thunderstorm” over south Norfolk on Saturday.

And among the many people caught out in heavy rain on Saturday were runners taking part in the Colour5K event at Felthorpe Airfield where the skies opened just as the run began.

Fast forward 24 hours, and Sunday morning saw Norfolk waking up to bright sunshine with temperatures reaching about 24 degrees Celsius throughout the day.

It was perfect beach weather and many people headed for the coast while some enjoyed soaking up the sun in Norwich’s parks.

Looking ahead to the next few days, Weatherquest forecaster Dan Holley said there was the potential for thundery showers early tomorrow morning, although these should clear fairly quickly with Monday being mainly dry and humid with temperatures of about 23 or 24 degrees Celsius.

He said there was a risk of thunderstorms in the west of the county later in the day and a risk of further thundery rain in the Great Yarmouth and Caister area in the early hours of Tuesday.

The middle of this week looks set to be dry with temperatures in the low 20s and a little bit of sun, while there is the chance of a few showers on Friday and Saturday.
