What links a UFO flying over Fakenham, a helicopter gun fight in London and one of Norwich’s most popular club nights?

The answer can be found in a short film showcasing the talents of Norfolk to a worldwide audience.

Released on Thursday and shot on location in Norfolk and in London, the film by Norwich software developer FXhome, journeys from war-torn London to a UFO invasion in the fields of Fakenham.

It comes to a climax on the stage of the Norwich Arts Centre.

The film, called ‘What’s Your Idea?’ was made to promote the St Giles Street firm’s video software called HitFilm 2. Tom McLoughlin, FXhome’s marketing manager, said: “Although many of our users are based in the US, we wanted the film to highlight our status as a British company that’s proud to call Norwich our home.

“We believe FXhome and the movie is helping to put Norwich on the map for filmmakers all over the world.” It blends helicopters and explosions with Norfolk at its best – from autumnal wheat fields to the musical talents of Norwich group The Vagaband in their video debut. The city’s Bo Nanafana Social Club was also on hand at the shoot to show off its members’ retro dance moves, while actors from the Sandra Reynolds agency are the stars of the show.

Shot on a tiny budget, it took five months to make.

The production was edited locally, with all visual effects created in-house at FXhome’s city centre studio using its own HitFilm 2 software. The software is already gaining recognition within the professional film industry.

In July 2012, the software was used by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Freddie Wong on the web series Video Game High School, which has reached audiences of more than six million.
