Freethorpe floods again after heavy rain

Residents in Freethorpe have again suffered the misery of flooding after a notorious stretch of road was buried under water.

The junction of Palmer’s Lane and The Green has already flooded three times this year - most recently in mid-February - and it became submerged once more this weekend.

After the heavy rain, water reached gardens and driveways and motorists had to negotiate the junction carefully.

Resident Sharon Brown said on Facebook: “Gardens in The Green are once again under water and Palmer’s Lane flooded.

“Is anything ever going to be done to stop this happening every time it rains? People spend a lot of time, effort and money to make gardens look nice to only let the flooding ruin plants and grass.

“Even the drives that people have gone to the expense of having shingled have just become a muddy mess. Nobody seems to want to take the responsibility for the problem.”

Norfolk County Council said last time the area flooded that it would investigate the drainage system to find out “why its not working”.

Elsewhere in the east of the county residents have reported up to seven inches of water submerging gardens and garages in Caister, and floods on roads in Harleston and Browston.
