Eight thousand free museum vouchers will be distributed to armed forces families across Norfolk from this week.

Norfolk County Council is contributing to the Norfolk Community Covenant by giving museum vouchers to the 8,000 members of the armed forces and their families in Norfolk, which includes the Light Dragoons based at Swanton Morley and those based at RAF Marham.

The free vouchers will be distributed to the families after the next Norfolk Community Covenant Board meeting this Friday.

Tony Tomkinson, who is a county councillor as well as the armed forces commissioner for the Norfolk Community Covenant, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these passes to our local armed forces families.

“It is a sincere gesture by the county council for the families who do so much to keep our country safe but one that I hope will provide an enjoyable experience for them to learn more about the history and culture of our county.

“We hope that the vouchers will be well received especially at this time as Norfolk will be welcoming home the Light Dragoons in October, which means our troops will be able to spend some quality time with their families.”

The Norfolk Community Covenant Board, led by the county council, has also donated £2,000 to the Norwich and District Branch of the Normandy Veterans’ Association’s trip to France for the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
