Footballers, members of the community, city dignitaries and well known faces gathered at Carrow Road for the Community Sports Foundation’s annual review.

As part of the event, Ian Thornton, director of CSF, outlined the charity’s 12 goals for 2012.

The event also marked 20 years of the charity formerly known as Football in the Community, included a dance performance by the charity’s new project Storm and introduced young Jamie Abbott, who has benefited from the charity’s disability programmes, as one of its two new young ambassadors.

Mr Thornton, who has been with the charity for 17 years, said: “The charity has changed so much over the last 20 years and we have learnt so much.

“Sport is such a powerful tool, but without all the staff and our outstanding partners that work with us, the foundation would not be able to achieve our goals to date. 2012 brings new challenges but some very exciting opportunities.”

Mr Humphrey, who is one of the charity’s ambassadors, added: “To stand here today and see they are engaging with 50,000 people and they’re looking to grow that in 2012, it’s real pleasure to see. As Norwich City continues to show they are Premier League class, let’s hope the charity continues to show they are too.”

  • As they are getting formula One people involved, lets hope the foundation is really going to assist local motorsports in future. They can follow in the footsteps of Dennis Slaughter (a stalwart of the local sporting community who's contribution resulted in him getting a well earned MBE in the new year honours) in trying hard to give the opportunity for people of all backgrounds to take part in athletic activities.
