Paul Benton, 42, appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court this morning and pleaded guilty to assaulting his partner at their home in Beverley Road, Earlham, on the night of Tuesday, June 12 and again the following morning.

Benton returned from serving in Afghanistan last October because of a hernia and back problem, which then caused him difficulty in finding a job once home.

The couple, who have two children together, had argued about money and the first incident had seen Benton push his partner against a wall with both of his hands.

This was then followed by a second assault the next morning, when Benton grabbed her and dragged her from their lounge and out in to the street.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. Benton was given a conditional bail and ordered to return to court on Tuesday, July 24.
