Developer McCarthy & Stone has applied to build 37 retirement appartments on the former grain silos site, on South Quay.

In a statement accompanying its planning application, the firm states: “Private independent living schemes play a vital part in the life of the local communities.

“The proposed site is located within easy

walking distance of the local shops and facilities and this will contribute significantly to retail viability providing additional expenditure within the local community, shops and
businesses.”

The silos, which were built in 1973, stored grain which had been brought to Lynn by ship. They were demolished and the site was cleared five years ago.
