A Diss cafe has been re-launched under new ownership after a former mayor took over the venture.

Jane Trippett-Jones has taken on the running of the Angel Cafe in Baldry's Yard and spent her first official day in charge on Mayday when morris dancers from the Hoxon Hundred danced at sunrise and then enjoyed a hearty breakfast at the cafe.

Sue Nicholls previously ran the business along with her daughter, but decided to put the business up for sale and Mrs Trippett-Jones became interested in the venture after learning of the sale during a conversation with the previous owner.

She said: 'It just seemed a great opportunity to carry on doing things for the community in a different way.

'I am a former councillor and I have always believed in doing something for the community and I just thought it would be a nice thing to take over. It is a nice business for the community.'

The official handover took place on May 1 when Mrs Trippett-Jones, who used to teach health care and child care to adults, served breakfast to the dancers from the Hoxon Hundred and Kenninghall morris dancers.

The 58-year-old said she was used to cooking as her husband has a big family which she often caters for.

The mother-of-three grown up children and four grandchildren said she may need to take on three extra staff, though she said she would not know for definite until she started running the cafe.

In its past life, the cafe has been a brewery, as well as a depot for soft drinks firm Baldrys.

The cafe specialises in all day breakfasts.
