A 40-strong group of players took part in the match between the Wymondham College veterans and the Roseberrians
in memory of Andy Boorman, the college’s former head
and vice-principal of boarding, who also managed the veterans’ team.

A crowd of more than 20 spectators watched the contest on Sunday, which raised £350 for the Priscilla Bacon Centre, in Norwich, which provides specialist palliative care and which cared for father-of-three Mr Boorman prior to his death from cancer.

His widow Caroline kicked off the match and former Norwich City striker Iwan Roberts played and scored during the game, while Mr Boorman’s son Dominic also played well.

The honour of being the oldest veteran went to Clive Privett, who had children at the college and donned his football boots at the sprightly age of 64.

The match was won 5-3 by the Roseberrians, a team made up from younger reserve Wymondham College veterans.

Mr Boorman’s friend Steve Jaggard organised the game, having known the keen sports and music fan well through his children Katie and Josh Jaggard, 22 and 20 respectively, who both attended the college.

He said: “Andy was incredibly passionate and dedicated to his job and his students, but outside of work he was an incredibly fun loving and easy going guy who loved music and loved sport.”

As well as being co-player managers of the veterans’ team, Mr Boorman and Mr Jaggard also attended music festivals together.

Mr Boorman’s funeral was held at a packed Wymondham Abbey in October and helped raise money for Cancer Research UK.

A trophy was also presented at the end of the game, which is set to be held annually.
