Among them was John Armour, 47, from Gorleston who said it was a boyhood dream fulfilled to see the trophy in person. 'Being a Norwich City supporter that's the last chance we'll see it for a while,' he joked.

Gary Kaminski and Sophie Battersby from Southtown brought sons Logan, 20 months, and newborn Hudson, six weeks, to see the cup.

Mr Kaminski, 24, said: 'It's a once in a lifetime chance and the fact I'm an Arsenal fan and we haven't held a cup in eight years, I thought if they can't I'm going to.'

The common is the home ground of Shrublands FC and players, coaches and managers gathered together for a group picture with the gleaming trophy.

John Barrett, who manages the under 13 team, said the youngsters loved having their snap next to the cup and it had been great fun for the adults too.

The 38-year-old West Ham supporter from Southtown said: 'It's just something special to all football fans. It's one of the biggest leagues in the world and you think about some of the players that have lifted it in the past.

'It's exciting.'

The trophy was in town as part of a nationwide tour, and in two hours 260 people had their picture taken with it.

Budding sports stars were also able to try their hand at a number of activities, including cricket, hockey, golf and football, through taster sessions being laid on by Active Norfolk.
