Food Lovers’ Fayre coming to Norwich Arts Centre

Norwich Arts Centre will be getting into the Norfolk Food and Drink Festival spirit this month with its own take on the traditional farmers’ market.
The Food Lovers’ Fayre, on Saturday, September 29, will bring together a host of small, local producers and give them a chance to meet a new audience and sell their wares.
The event, which marks the first time the centre has taken part in the EDP Adnams Norfolk Food and Drink Festival, in association with Norfolk County Council, aims to build on the success of the centre’s growing programme of free Saturday activities.
Previous days have included the Clutter City Market, selling handmade goods and crafts, and Jumble Up.
Grace Jackson, front of house assistant at the arts centre, says: “The staff at the arts centre all love great local food and were enthusiastic to bring together some of the amazing producers and makers they know of, from around the region.”
Exhibitors will include Elmtree Brewery, based at Snetterton; Cooper and Read Cakes; Norfolk Cider Company, which is based at Attleborough and runs The Apple Shop at Wroxham Barns; Chutney Pickle and Pudding Company; The Pie Barn; and Scrubby Oak Fine Food.
“Most of the stallholders are very small companies, often just one or two people with such a passion for good food that they have started out on their own,” says Grace. “We were keen to be a part of showcasing that talent.
“Some are becoming more established but have maintained the quality and their original aims.”
But, as well as lots of “lovely grub”, the arts centre is keen to put its own spin on the traditional farmers’ market.
To ensure visitors to the St Benedicts Street site are greeted with a “buzzy” atmosphere in keeping with a thriving arts venue, DJs will be playing music in The Barn Cafe and Bar all day and there will be lots of entertainment for youngsters including a chance to grow their own veg.
The Food Lovers’ Fayre takes place on Saturday, September 29, from 11am to 4pm.
