The first snow flakes of the New Year fell in Norwich this morning - but it’s not here to stay.

Commuters this morning may have spotted the first snow fall of the year as they drove to work in Norwich.

The wintery dust fell for just a few minutes towards Thickthorn Roundabout but did not settle.

This time last year Norfolk was still covered with an icy sheet, but Steve Western, forecaster at Weatherquest, said, with the temperature just above freezing, the snow didn’t land.

He said: “We may see a few more flakes today and tomorrow but it won’t be anything special.

“We have some showers coming and they might be a little bit wintery at times - there’s a chance of some sleet mixed with rain.”

  • More terrible work from EDP, misleading picture and a non story, very sad. Surprised they didn't have a picture of their darling Chloe Smith building a snowman.

  • It was bit chilly, but didn't affect me on my motorbike. In fact, it was a nice ride out.

  • I blame the East Europeans; they brought their terrible communist weather with them. It`s a well known fact that the Baltic & Balkan blood temperatures are a full 10 deg.Centigrade below ours, and affect the local ambient temperature accordingly. They should only be permitted entry to our Septic Isle during heatwaves, when they`d be of some use to us. Otherwise - stay away, please!

  • I love Archant.Real news outlets are seriously depressing, but Archant is always good for a laugh! Could have used a more impactful picture though.Like workmen having an alfresco lunch in the middle of the Wensum in 1963...Just wait for the first time we have a warm day.Guaranteed there will be a pic of a kid eating an ice cream cone on Yarmouth pleasure beach.Circa 1985.............

  • Erm, a) it's really not snowing; b) you're using a really misleading archive photo; c) 'Snowfall falls' sounds a bit silly. You're welcome.
