This was the sight that greeted motorists along the A140 near Eye this week as work began on the first of two new wind turbines to supply power to 2,830 homes.

Green energy company Triodos Renewables is building the 130m high structures on farmland on the edge of the Eye airfield industrial estate close to the base of truck rentals firm the Roy Humphrey Group.

The Eye project is Triodos Renewables’ ninth renewable energy project and the fourth that it has developed on a brownfield site. The electricity, which could power 88pc of the homes in nearby Diss, will power the host industrial estate, including the Humphrey Group.

Over the last three years, the company has increased its power generation capacity by 63pc and it now owns and operates eight sites around the UK, aiming to generate enough renewable power for 28,700 homes.
