Residents fled from their homes in Sheringham after a flat fire broke out early this morning.
Firefighters from Sheringham, Cromer and Holt were called to the scene in Cliff Road at 2.45am after the blaze broke out in the ground floor flat.
The crews used hose reels jets and wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames, before ventilating the flat and surrounding properties.
Neighbours rushed out of the building and gathered on the pavement outside as firefighters tackled the flames.
Andrew Saunders was alerted to the fire after he heard neighbours knocking on doors.
The 26-year-old said he had gone to bed around an hour before he woke to the commotion.
“I heard people running around and smelt smoke,” he said. “I came outside and thought it’s time to leave. There was a lot of smoke.”
Mr Saunders said residents were allowed back in their homes at around 5am and utility companies had since been to the property .
