Emergency teams were called to a burning building in Surrey Street at 5.36am, with three appliances from Carrow, Earlham and Sprowston in attendance.

Crews wore breathing apparatus, rescued one casualty and extinguished the fire using hose reel jets and main jets.

The casualty, a man in his 30s, was treated for smoke inhalation but did not need to go to hospital.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to disperse the smoke.

Police were called to the flat fire, near to the bus station, at 5.45am to assist with road closures.

All roads were re-opened by 6.15am.
