A deer was saved from drowning in Norwich by a fire crew this morning.
The muntjac deer got into trouble in the River Wensum near the Friendship Bridge on King Street.
A specialist boat crew from Norfolk Fire and Rescue was despatched to save the distressed animal.
The deer was swimming back and forth barely able to keep its head above the water and was crying out for help.
The crew lifted the animal out of the water and onto the boat before rowing back to dry land.
The animal was rescued from the by 10am and taken back to land where RSCPA officers took over.
RSPCA inspector Ben Kirby said: 'Luckily for the deer he was unhurt by his little adventure, so after checking him over and getting advice from wildlife experts, I released him back to the wild where he belongs.
'It was a nice happy ending for this young animal,' Mr Kirby added.
Louise Harrison, who lives on nearby Argyll Street, witnessed the rescue and said: 'I saw a little thing in the river and saw it was a deer.
'I have seen a lot of things in the river but I have never seen anything like this. I haven't seen deers around here before.
'It has made my day that there are nice people in the world to save the animal.'
A call was put in to the emergency services at 9.16am and one appliance, the technical rescue unit and the surface rescue boat from Carrow attended the scene.
