Organisers hope runners will complete Stroke Association’s Hunstanton 10k beach run to help charity
Efforts to secure a Lottery grant for a historic King’s Lynn chapel are reaching a critical deadline with £40,000 left to raise.
A final push is needed if the full grant is to be claimed for St Nicholas’ Chapel for a major renovation project and a plea has gone out to runners to help.
Fundraisers are hoping the first Hunstanton 10k beach run, being held at the end of the month, will see people helping the Calling all Angels campaign for the chapel - as well as the run’s organisers, The Stroke Association.
“We need donations as a last ditch attempt to get the money for the chapel. We have only about a month to raise the final £40,000 if we are to reach the amount needed by the Lottery fund to give us the full grant,” said committee member Charlotte Paton.
“It would be tragic to fail at this stage,” she added.
Supporters need to raise £210,000 to ensure a £1.5m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund is awarded.
If the final £40,000 is not achieved by the end of October, the lottery grant will be reduced and the committee may not be able to carry out all the planned work.
The money will be used for a range of improvements, including a new roof complete with solar panels, a kitchen and toilet facilities.
A special clock has been produced for the appeal and it is now on sale at the chapel and True’s Yard Museum for £9.99 to help the appeal.
A variety of events have also been planned to help boost the coffers, including three concerts over the next few weeks.
The Norfolk Reeds clarinet quartet will be in the chapel on Sunday, September 30 for a concert from 3pm. Tickets are £5 and available from the venue and True’s Yard.
The King’s Lynn and Gloucester Police male voice choirs will be joined by guest soprano Hayley Duncalf for a performance on Friday, October 12 from 7pm.
Lynn Festival Chorus will also be presenting a concert of Saturday, October 27 from 7.30pm.
A stained glass exhibition will also be held over the winter.
The Hunstanton 10k will be held on September 30 and the event also includes a fancy dress fun run along with an associated fun day on The Green.
Nearly 3,000 people have supported a Facebook campaign demanding safety improvements on the A47 near Dereham set up after the latest fatal crash.
