Inspired by Birds is the theme of the Norwich Castle Open Art Show 2014 which will be held this summer - and people have until February 28 to submit work for consideration.

Anybody living in East Anglia can enter, and about 100 of the entries will be chosen for the exhibition.

Entrants will also be put in the running for The Brown and Co Award, which is a cash prize of up to £1,000 from the show’s principal sponsor.

Exhibitions officer Heather Guthrie said: “The theme of birds is an absolute gift for photographers.

“Norfolk in particular is a county that attracts lots of birdwatchers so we are sure there must be lots of photographers sitting on really good shots that our selection panel would love to see.

“We would also like people to submit paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture.

“It is an open art show and a golden opportunity for anybody with a love of birds to share their work.”

The Inspired by Birds exhibition will be at the castle from July 12 until August 31, and Ms Guthrie said it would run alongside another exhibition called The Wonder of Birds which will feature work loaned from venues such as the National Gallery, Tate, and the British Museum. The Wonder of Birds: Nature. Art. Culture. will run from May 24 until September 14.

Ms Guthrie said the two shows combined would provide a rich cultural offer at the castle over the summer.

“It is a fantastic opportunity, not only for artists and photographers but also visitors, to come and enjoy work inspired by birds,” she said.

Author and visual artist Katrina van Grouw, sculptor Harriet Mead, and wildlife photographer David Tipling make up the selection panel which will pick the work for the open art show.

Norwich Castle Open Art Show 2014 is organised in association with principal funder, the East Anglia Art Fund.
