Fashion parade latest fundraiser for new village centre in Dersingham
Some of the women were a bit tentative and showed their inexperience on the catwalk - but it was for a good cause.
A fashion parade put on by Castle Rising-based Allez Chic at St Nicholas Church Hall in Dersingham proved a great success.
It was held as part of ongoing efforts to raise money towards a new village centre.
David Collingham, who runs the Dersingham village centre association, said: “We are still working through the profits, but we hope to have raised about £600.
“It was Allez Chic’s end of season range and the models were local ladies, some from our village, some from others. It was organised by my wife Judy and there were some WI representatives. We had about 90 people there.
“The actual build cost of the centre will be about £900,000. We know we will have a shortfall of several hundred thousand pounds, but we are fundraising and holding many local events towards it. We have submitted a bid to the Big Lottery Fund, and will get an answer in January. We hope to have the centre up and running in 2018. “
Dersingham has a population of about 5000, but it’s never had a village hall.
A few years ago, St Nicholas parochial church council offered the church hall site to the parish council for the purpose of constructing a new hall.
An application was made to the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Buildings Fund, and a planning application submitted.
The new village centre will enable new services and activities to take place. These will include job clubs, children’s centre sessions, weekend kids’ club, lunch/tea drop-ins, and health-related sessions, as well as providing a large hall for social functions, conferences and training.
