A jet pilot killed in a crash did not report problems with his aircraft to engineers because he was in a rush to get home and did not want to delay colleagues an investigation found.

Major Taj Sareen died when his £50 million FA-18C US Marine Corps jet came down in Cambridgeshire in October 2015.

An accident investigation report said there was evidence his navigation system was 'not 100 per cent'.

Maj Sareen, 34, told colleagues about the issues but did not tell the maintenance team, the report said.

The report also found the weather had a 'major impact' by forcing him to use his standby flight instruments.

Maj Sareen was hailed a 'hero' at the time by a witness who said the jet was piloted away from two houses into farmland which saved others from potentially being hurt on the ground.
