CCTV images of a man police want to speak to in connection with “senseless” vandalism at a town hall have been released.
Residents were left devastated when raiders smashed the clock tower window to gain access to Eye Town Hall, ransacking rooms inside just after it had been given a £200,000 makeover.
The newly-refurbished main hall was sprayed with fire extinguishers but most upsetting of all though was the damage they caused to the paintings in the council chamber, with a grand portrait of Samuel Peck - a key figure in the town as mayor from 1875-76 - cut and torn all the way through the canvas.
Now police have released CCTV images of a man wearing baggy trousers and a coat with a florescent logo, who was seen on the front steps of the town hall around the time of the incident on Sunday, April 1.
Police are hoping he may be able to assist with their investigations.
Anyone who recognises the individual in the CCTV images should contact Suffolk police on 101, quoting crime reference 17763/18 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
