The Alix Leah exhibition, curated by her parents Karen and Humphrey, presents some of her core artworks, alongside work by her friends and family.

Alix who died in 2008 aged 27, grew up in Bungay and studied textiles at City College Norwich and Goldsmiths, University of London.

Much of her work contains a political message reflecting her strong social awareness. She worked with a project helping homeless people and fought against social inequality.

Alix’s work has never been on display before, except during her years at college, and the work includes some of her school art books and work she entered into a national competition aged six.

Mrs Leah said: “It is a celebration of Alix’s life, her inquisitive mind and the extraordinary power of friendship and community.

“I think it is a fitting tribute.”

The exhibition opened at The Gallery at Bungay’s Fisher Theatre on November 6 when a film of Alix’s life was shown, and continues until December 2.

Other artists exhibiting work include her mum and sister Kerry Heaney, eleven of Alix’s close friends and five of her nieces and nephews aged from six to 16 years.

Mr Leah said: “We are really chuffed with it and we had a marvellous turn out on the opening night.

“It has taken us a long time to be strong enough to do it and everyone has been really positive about it.”

Some of the pieces created by friends for the exhibition are available to buy.

Admission to the exhibition is free and it can usually be viewed between 10am and 3pm Monday to Saturday, and again from 6pm on show nights.

The Gallery is occasionally closed for meetings. To check opening times before you travel, contact the theatre box office on 01986 897130.
