Exercise has just got a lot more fun at RAF Marham after the newly refurbished gymnasium opened with new state-of-the-art equipment.

The cardio-vascular suite at the West Norfolk base boasts new running machines, cross trainers and cycles while the new TVX system inside the gymnasium and outside on the sports fields opens up a whole range of activities that give a complete all-round work out.

Personnel demonstrated the many uses of the new equipment to guests attending the opening ceremony. Among the guests were Richard Sheen and Ben Steadman, from Pulse Fitness, suppliers of the new equipment, who said: “The partnership approach between Pulse Fitness, the RAF and especially Flt Sgt Darrel Keane from RAF Marham has managed to find all the solutions to accommodate the training needs.

“With functional training and strength and conditioning an integral part of the Armed Forces fitness programme, we are confident that this state-of-the art equipment will meet all those requirements for the personnel here at RAF Marham.”

The driving force behind the refurbishment of the gymnasium was Flt Sgt Darrel Keane, from the PEd Flight.

He said: “Fitness is such an important part of serving in the Armed Forces so to have this latest equipment in our gymnasium is fantastic.

“We can use the equipment in so many different ways from putting together a fitness programme for an individual to conducting a training session for a whole section. The equipment is so versatile that you could never get bored using it.”

RAF Marham’s station commander Group Captain Harv Smyth opened the new gym.

He said: “The installation of this new equipment is a massive leap forward in capability for the PEd team here at RAF Marham: while it doesn’t replace our near-term need for a new gym, it does however allow us to fully maximise the limited space we have.

“The PEd team has shown great innovation in implementing this new equipment, alongside new training methodologies, and I look forward to using it, and receiving feedback from across the station.”
