Cromer is set for two days of traffic trouble when one of the main one-way streets is closed for resurfacing.
Lorries will be forced to take a long diversion, while cars will have to travel down residential roads while the work on Mount Street is completed on January 28 and 29.
Some of the streets will temporarily be made one-way during the work, which a Norfolk County Council (NCC) engineer said would “cause inconvenience” but had to be done.
The resurfacing work includes the Mount Street junctions with Cambridge Street and Bond Street.
Vehicles passing through the town from the Holt or Sheringham direction will not be affected.
But light vehicles coming from the Norwich or Overstrand direction and heading through Cromer will have to turn left onto Vicarage Road, Colne Road and The Croft before joining Louden Road.
For years, Louden Road has been one way from east to west, but it will temporarily be made two-way during the work, to allow vehicles to turn right out of The Croft for “access purposes only”.
Potential congestion will also be eased by temporary parking restric-tions on Vicarage Road, Colne Road and The Croft. But that could create problems as people look for spaces.
The northern stretch of Bond Street will have its one -way system reversed, to run north to south, with “gatemen” on hand to assist and direct traffic.
HGVs will have to turn left at Roughton and follow the B1436 through Felbrigg, then turn right or left onto the A148 Holt Road.
The work creates a problem for buses, and local firms are set to use smaller buses to enable them to use the Vicarage Road cut-through, rather than take the circuitous HGV diversion.
NCC engineer Jill Robinson said: “Hopefully, by doing the work in January we’ll be able to keep disruption to a minimum. As soon as we’ve finished working, the road will be re-opened and the diversions taken off.”
Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a garden pond today.
