More than 23 metres of walkway have been constructed at Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s (NWT) Swangey Fen, near Attleborough, by a work party from Kier Construction.

A team of seven from the company, including engineers, carpenters and office staff, created and installed the boardwalk at the spring-fed fen, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation.

Their efforts have helped provide better access to the site, for conservation management work and for public access.

Darrell Stevens, Breckland reserves manager, said: “They did a super job, especially given the heat and the insects. They all worked extremely hard and we are a big step closer to getting the job finished.”

Claire Hadley, environmental and corporate responsibility supervisor for Kier Construction, added: “Constructing the 23m of boardwalk was hard work and intense but worth it. It was great for team building and to use our skills for the benefit of both Norfolk Wildlife Trust and the public.”

Access to NWT Swangey Fen is by guided tour only. If you are interested in taking part in a corporate work party at a Norfolk reserve, call Jane Ryan on 01603 625540.
