Fears have been raised over an 'accident blind spot' following two collisions on the same stretch of road within a week.

Last week, two accidents had taken place at the junction where the A10 meets St Germans Road, on the end of Mill Road, in Setchey near King's Lynn.

While no-one was injured, one car involved in the accident had to be written off.

West Winch parish councillor Barry Thrower - whose daughter-in-law Danielle Thrower was involved in one of the accidents - said views of the road are obstructed by vegetation, which has caused many accidents in the past.

He added: 'Just a couple of days after Danielle's accident my neighbour had a similar incident. Somebody smashed into her in the same location.

'Thankfully no-one was hurt but Danielle was badly shaken up.'

Mr Thrower has lived in St Germans Road for 73 years and said he knows the junction very well, adding: 'Sometimes it is impossible to see what is coming. There are always problems getting onto the highways.' He believes a bypass in Setchey would relieve a lot of traffic problems in the area but said residents have been calling for one for many years.

'The A10 is a chock-a-block in the mornings. With the waste bin collections it is even worse - it's a nightmare this road.' Mr Thrower added.

County councillor Alexandra Kemp led a site meeting with residents, which she described as a 'very productive meeting'.

She added: 'The A10 is busier than the A47 in West Norfolk and there are lots of narrow junctions.

'You can't see properly on either side, visibility is extremely poor.'

She said she has raised concerns to the county council urging for a bypass in Setchey and for improvements to make it safe.

Ms Kemp had contacted police to review the junction and welcomed suggestions for give way markings to be moved forward and to realign the edge of the carriageway with a hatched area to improve visibility.

She added: 'This sounds an excellent idea to make the junction safe for residents and all the people using Mill Road as a shortcut from the Willows Industrial Estate, which has become much heavier in the last couple of years, particularly with repairs to the interchange.'
